Found Inspirations: Week of 09/10/23
I decided that I wanted to make a blog post to collect all of the artwork and references I've found within the week. Perhaps this may become something I do weekly on my blog, should things go well.
On the 10th of this month, it was "Portfolio day" on Twitter. A lot of artists of many mediums take this day to use the hashtag #PortfolioDay and share their work and a bit about themselves. This meant that this week I was especially flooded with a lot of great work that I wanted to save somewhere - and so, I thought why not my blog!

This work from Brendan Matyas came up on my Twitter feed for Portfolio day and I really liked the stylisation in these houses. It reminded me of what I wanted with my own houses project last year on the BA; wanting a funky and wonky feeling as well as for it to feel hand-painted with a lot of brush strokes and bright colours. I think all the other little details around this house is great and makes the whole scene feel really full of life.

This is probably my favourite thing I've found online... Probably ever? Ali Eser shared a whole Twitter thread (a collection of replies under one tweet) sharing how they go about creating really lovely and stylised painterly brush strokes on their models to add textural interest. There are a lot of steps in this tutorial, but it's all about building up different colours and strokes to create a nice final piece with lots of colour variation. Reminds me of the style of Arcane!

I was also checking out what some of my mutuals on Twitter have been creating lately and Danga created this really nice Substance Designer material. As usual, I really like all the different layers of colur variation and brush-like strokes within this. Funnily enough - they're actually a software engineer.Ranko Prozo - Twitter, Artstation

Another portfolio day post. I really like the concept art props in the third image and would love to model these one day. Also inspirational as a reference for any future prop concept art I'd like to do in the future.
Not particularly games-related, but I found this drawing by Mattias Adolfsson this week on my Twitter. I love everything about this image and would like to 3D model a whole environment like this sketch. I also like how it seems to be drawn completely free-hand, without any rulers. Reminds me of an Overwatch environment.
